Glad you like The Abduction - it is kind of close to my heart. 
As well as sawdust/woodshavings, you can try to pack your smoke bins with dry leaves, ripped up newspapers and all manners of organic (dry) waste. I am updating my blog with some photos of smoke fired Fat Birds - pleased with the purple-ish tones from the manganese oxides...Mmmm!
