Retreat for people who care for artists

This is an interesting follow-up, in my mind anyway, to yesterday’s post about an arts center for the Christian faith.

David Taylor, formerly arts pastor at Hope Chapel in Austin, has organized an April retreat for “Senior pastors. Associate pastors. Lay ministers. Professional coffee drinkers. Teachers. Para-church staff. And anybody who feels that strong yearning to love artists and to help them grow strong and whole and holy.” The event will be held at Laity Lodge west of Austin, Texas. The topics on the docket right now include

1) Our own preparation as ministers
2) The pastoring of the artist as a person
3) The pastoring of the artist as a worker

Makoto Fujimura will be among the facilitators of the event. Cost for the Monday through Thursday retreat is $285, and interested parties can register here.

I’m not sure I’ll be able to make it down to this particular event, but it’s something I’d like to attend. My own interest in caring for other artists probably doesn’t come across very strongly in this blog — except for the two or three times I’ve mentioned my desire to create a faith-based art center — though it is something I feel somewhat divinely charged with.
