Anysia Keating, CSJ (1862-1956)
Madonna and Child
1937, Plaster
Collection of James H. Marrinan
Although Sister Anysia was recognized primarily for her painting, on both canvas and ceramic, she also experimented with sculpture. Carved in low relief, the highly stylized design of this Madonna and Child has an elegant streamlined quality that recalls the Art Deco style popularized throughout the 1920s and early 1930s.
Found in the College of St. Catherine gallery.
