Why bother with real people?

The Surburban Christian noted Dove’s Campaign for Real Beauty in a post titled Body image and artificial beauty. He originally saw the campaign on More Than Serving Tea.
After watching this video showing how a model is digitally made over after being made up, I can’t help but ask “Why bother with real people?” Wouldn’t it be cheaper to digitally create a person out of thin air than pay a model and the 10 people it takes to do her clothes, hair, make-up and then to stage the shoot — set design, lighting, photographer . . .
I’m assuming we possess the technology to do such a thing, but is that such a leap? I’m thinking of the movie called S1m0ne as I write this . . .
