Digg needs some art & culture

WordPress recently added the ability to put a Digg button in your posts. I like Digg but don’t use it that much.

Digg is missing some categories. Anything remotely relating to visual art, for instance. Sure, the obligatory miscellaneous category is there, called “Offbeat.” Most stories I submit end up in this category. Other bloggers, such as TheMuLife.com and JeffKee.com also find the Digg categories sorely lacking — although neither of these mention the arts. ThinkingPictures, however, is also asking “Where’s the art in Digg 3.0?”

Herein lies my own suggestion:

The Arts & Crafts

  • Architecture
  • Graphic design
  • Fabric arts
  • Film
  • Furniture design
  • Industrial design
  • Music
  • Painting
  • Photography
  • Sculpture
  • Other visual arts

You get the idea.

Digg this!

About pcNielsen
Paul Nielsen founded The Aesthetic Elevator late in 2005, posting to it for the first time in early 2006. He owns a piece of paper, located somewhere in his house (not on the wall) stating that he earned a B.F.A. in studio art from the University of Nebraska around about 2001. While there, he studied studied architecture, graphic design and ceramics, graduating with a degree in studio art. Paul presently serves as communications manager for a small non-profit doing their print design and marketing. He spends time in his studio as much as possible — which is not nearly enough. His home is in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Visit his website at http://pcNielsen.com.

Digg.com, from what I know, started off as a tech-oriented site, but they could broaden their categories a lot more than what they have now.

I agree with the Arts section – why did I not think of that specifically?

    Cheers.

  2. Jennie says:

I completely agree, Digg is a great resource but would be much more usable with an arts category, for posting and reading.

  3. Jeremiah says:

    Hey, I agree too!

Agree! It would also help bring more women to the site, I think. Please see this page: http://community.livejournal.com/feminist/2910475.html
