Lilias Trotter up for auction

Via the Arts and Faith forums I’ve learned of a painting by the late Lilias Trotter — personally tutored by John Ruskinup for auction through the Eastbourne Auction Rooms:

The back of the painting, date and size not specified on the auction, states the artist’s name, the name of her tutor Ruskin and the name of the lady who purchased the work from “Miss Trotter.”

While there, he studied studied architecture, graphic design and ceramics, graduating with a degree in studio art. Paul presently serves as communications manager for a small non-profit doing their print design and marketing. He spends time in his garage studio as much as possible — which is not nearly enough. Holy freakin’ cow, it sold for 675 pounds! Starting bid was 15. I was hoping to buy it for my wife, who’s a former short-termer with Arab World Ministries, the mission founded by Lilias Trotter (who gave up a promising art career to become a missionary). But it got a wee bit expensive.

Ain’t that the truth! I would love own something of hers . . . I’m reading the recent Miriam Huffman Rockness bio of her life right now and am quite disappointed at the lack of pictures in the book. Seems really tough to come by any pictures of any kind of her work.
